North Yorkshire has become one of the UK's most popular holiday destinations. With it's rugged coastline and beautiful landscapes it's easy to see why. There has also been growing demand for holiday accommodation which offers a real connection with nature. Woodland lodges make the perfect choice for those looking to invest in their quality of life.
Woodland lodges are designed to make the most of their scenic surroundings. Lodges provide comfortable accommodation in a uniquely beautiful location. Featuring modern interiors and spacious open-plan layouts, a lodge makes an ideal home from home.

Owning a woodland lodge in North Yorkshire makes it possible to enjoy all that this region offers, on your own terms. Fancy a weekend away at short notice? No problem! Want to spend a week walking, or enjoying Yorkshire's food & drink scene? Go ahead!
In this article we'll look at some of the benefits of woodland lodge ownership. We'll also share some of our top tips for things to do in and around Ladycross - the perfect base from which to explore Yorkshire.
1. Why Choose North Yorkshire for a Woodland Lodge?
North Yorkshire is a truly beautiful county. The North York Moors National Park is on our doorstep. The North York Moors is known for its unique heather moorland, which turns a brilliant purple in the summer. A fantastic area for walking and cycling, with footpaths and bridleways in all directions. The Yorkshire Dales National Park is within reach too. Featuring luscious green pasture and rolling hills criss-crossed by its iconic dry stone walls.
Visitors to North Yorkshire will also enjoy the pockets of ancient woodland. One of our favourite local spots is Falling Foss, a dramatic waterfall at the heart of Sneaton Forest. Also nearby is Dalby Forest, home to some of the UK's best mountain bike trails.
On the Yorkshire coast you'll find picturesque fishing villages. These include Robin Hood's Bay, with its smuggling history, and Staithes which is known for its artistic heritage.

With so much to see and do North Yorkshire makes a fantastic choice for both short breaks and longer holidays. The cities of York and Leeds make ideal day trips, each offering something different. Just over an hour's drive away, York's historic buildings include the inspiring York Minster. York is also a great option for shopping - particularly at Christmas time when the city centre hosts a wonderful Christmas market.
2. Benefits of Owning a Woodland Lodge
Woodland lodges offer a peaceful and relaxing environment. At Ladycross we've carefully designed our lodge development to promote privacy, peace and quiet. We want to ensure that all of our guests, whether they're owners or not, enjoy their stay. Escape the hustle and bustle of the busier towns and villages and enjoy the sights and sounds of nature.
If you're looking for an investment opportunity then a woodland lodge could be just the thing. With the increase in demand for nature-focussed retreats your lodge could provide a rental income. And what's more, you're free to enjoy your woodland lodge at any time of year - even when the park is closed to short-term guests.

Our woodland lodges are low maintenance and eco-friendly by design. Pre-fabricated and installed on site by a specialist team, woodland lodges are highly insulated and offer all the modern conveniences you would expect. Lodges also have low running costs, due to their energy efficiency.
Available all year round, owning a woodland lodge means you can make the most of it - whatever time of year you visit! Through the summer lodge owners can enjoy sitting out on the balcony, sipping a glass of wine and enjoying the woodland scenery. In the winter you can snuggle up inside with a luxurious hot chocolate and your favourite TV shows or films.
3. Ladycross: The Top Location in North Yorkshire for Woodland Lodges
Ladycross is set in 95 acres of mature woodland. It's on the outskirts of the village of Egton, a short drive from the historic port of Whitby, and surrounded by the North York Moors National Park.
Whitby is well known as a holiday destination. Whitby features a wonderful sandy beach, picturesque harbour and ancient Abbey. It's also home to many amazing independent shops and small businesses, with a food & drink scene to rival anywhere in the country.
If you'd like to get a feel for the park, feel free to arrange a site visit with our team. Or better still, book to stay in one of our existing rental lodges so that you can spend a few days experiencing Ladycross for yourselves.
4. Key Features to Look for When Buying a Woodland Lodge
There's more to consider when buying a woodland lodge rather than hiring one. You need to make sure you're happy to return to the same location, or that the rental income will meet your expectations. But you'll also want to consider the design and layout of your lodge carefully as well as the on-site facilities available to you. Another aspect of woodland lodge ownership to consider is the site fees. Our fees include Council Tax, site maintenance, community electric, refuse collection and provision of a safe and secure site behind barrier entry.
Some of the most frequently asked questions are answered in our Woodland Lodge FAQ.
Ladycross provides free guest WIFI across the park. We also have a small on-site shop which stocks a range of basic supplies. Our guests can make the most of our 95 acres of woodland by exploring the woodland trails we have established. We also have a large open field available which can be used for games, picnics, bike riding and exercising of pets.
5. Things to Consider Before Purchasing a Woodland Lodge in North Yorkshire
If you will need to secure finance to purchase your lodge we can help connect with you suitable finance providers. However, we are not a broker and cannot make direct recommendations about finance, loans and mortgages.
At Ladycross we're keen to protect the natural beauty of the woodland. We do not permit woodland lodge owners to put up sheds or greenhouses. None of our lodges have garages, although parking is provided alongside each lodge.

Alongside the ground rent which is payable yearly, lodge owners will need to pay local authority rates and insurance along with gas and electricity which is metered for each property.
If you are planning on renting out your lodge you'll want to discuss the tax implications with an accountant or financial advisor. They will be best placed to advise on how to handle the revenue generated for tax purposes.
6. Current Market Trends for Woodland Lodges in North Yorkshire (2024)
With increased interest in nature-based holidays, demand is growing for high quality woodland lodge accommodation. Within easy reach of popular towns and cities, woodland lodges offer a tranquil escape - the best of both worlds.
Post-pandemic we saw a marked increase in holidaymakers opting to stay in the UK and explore the beautiful scenery of North Yorkshire. Yorkshire has also been featured on many prime time TV programmes in recent months, including:
It's been wonderful to see our beautiful county recognised in this way. Both of these TV series highlight both the wonderful countryside of Yorkshire, along with the craftspeople who make their living here. Both are well worth a watch!
Following these high profile TV appearances, and the regular articles about Yorkshire in the national press, we expect that demand for woodland lodge holidays in Yorkshire will continue to rise. This is good news for woodland lodge owners, who could benefit from the rental income generated as a result.
